Sometimes, the biggest acts of generosity come from the smallest hands. 

Benny and Catelyn Yackness have grown up in a family where tzedakah and community are a way of life. Their grandparents, Friends of JNF Canada board member and dedicated supporters Allan & Susan Fenwick, together with their parents have instilled in the children the values of tzedakah, community, and a deep connection to Israel.

Following the October 7 attacks, Benny's connection to Israel grew even stronger. After learning about the tremendous need, he surprised his mother by emptying his piggy bank and insisting every dollar go to Israel. For his birthday, instead of asking for presents, he chose to raise money for an important cause in Israel. 

Inspired by a friend at school who organized a successful cookie fundraiser, Benny saw an opportunity to use his own creativity to make a difference. Together with his sister Catelyn and a few friends, Benny turned the end of their family's driveway into a neighbourhood bake sale. They baked cookies and brownies, decorated handmade treat bags, and even had dog bones available for passing walkers. With smiles and enthusiasm, they welcomed neighbours and built community support around their mission to help Israel.

When it came time to choose where the proceeds would go, the children chose to donate their proceeds to Friends of JNF Canada in support of Israel. 

Friends of JNF is honoured to have been chosen as the recipient of their fundraiser. Their generosity is a meaningful reminder that the values of tzedakah and a love for Israel are being passed from one generation to the next. 

Although the bake sale lasted only one afternoon, its impact will reach far beyond their driveway. With Benny already planning his next fundraiser, we know this is only the beginning!
