Friends of JNF Canada proudly presents the Negev Gala in Ottawa, honouring Ian Sherman, a dedicated community leader and long-time supporter of Israel.
This year’s Gala will raise funds to support Kibbutz Holit, an Israeli community with deep ties to Ottawa. Severely impacted by the events of October 7th, proceeds from the Gala will help renovate the community’s youth centre and create a community garden, providing spaces that support healing, growth, and connection in this Kibbutz.
We are honoured to welcome Erin Molan, well-known Australian television host and media personality, as our guest speaker. The evening will be moderated by Casey Babb, an experienced host known for his thoughtful engagement and strong presence at community events.
Join us as we celebrate Ian Sherman and stand with Kibbutz Holit in its journey of rebuilding. Cocktail reception begins at 5:30pm, followed by the program and dessert.
The Lives You Will Touch
Kibbutz Holit, just a mile from the Gaza and Egypt borders, was founded in 1977 and is now home to 170 members, including 60 children. Holit was shattered on October 7th when 15 members were murdered and 9 kidnapped. Among them was Adi Vital-Kaploun, an Ottawa-born mother who gave her life protecting her children, a symbol of Holit’s strength and sacrifice. Today, survivors are displaced but determined to return in 2026 and rebuild stronger. Central to that dream is creating safe spaces for their children to heal and thrive.
How Your Gift Helps - Your support will rebuild Holit’s Youth Centre, a fortified hub for social life, learning, creativity, and create a Community Garden to restore connection with the land. These projects will give children stability, instill resilience, and provide shelter during future threats. By helping rebuild Holit, you restore hope, strengthen Israel’s borders, and give 60 children a chance for a future filled with security and possibility.
Adi Vital-Kaploun, a true Holit hero
Adi was a woman who carried Israel in her heart while treasuring her Canadian roots. Her love for both countries shaped the way she lived with compassion, courage, and a deep connection to her family and community. Together with her partner Anani, she built a life in Kibbutz Holit, a close-knit community on the southern border of Israel. They named their children Negev, after the serene desert around them, and Eshel, after the hardy desert tree that symbolizes resilience.
Adi’s passion for the land shone in everything she did, from earning her master’s degree in solar energy and environmental physics with distinction to nurturing her children with care and guidance. On the morning of October 7th, when danger struck Holit, Adi’s bravery shone brightest. Alone with her children, she protected them, reassured them of her love, and guided her father to safety. She fought to defend her family and, in doing so, became a true hero. May her memory forever be a blessing.
