A symbol of strength for the community of Shlomit On October 7, 2023, the residents of Shlomit, like so many across Israel, awoke to unimaginable terror. Members of the community’s volunteer security team were called to defend a neighbouring kibbutz under attack. They left their moshav and, in a fierce and heroic battle, four brave men, Aviad, Reuven, Bechor, and Oriel, were killed while saving hundreds of lives. Thanks for their incredible efforts, not one civilian was killed. But four mothers became widows, and fifteen children lost their fathers. Their courage and sacrifice will forever be etched into the soul of the community.
Today, the people of Moshav Shlomit are rebuilding with strength, faith, and determination. At the heart of that renewal is the construction of a new Synagogue Cultural Centre, built in memory of these four heroes. Positioned on Israel’s southern frontier, along the Egyptian border and just kilometres from Gaza, this new complex rises as a beacon of hope in the Negev landscape. Visible for kilometres in every direction, it will stand as an enduring symbol of resilience, faith, and courage. The complex will be a gathering place for young families and pioneers to celebrate Jewish life and mark life’s milestones, sustained by community and shared destiny.
Your support for the Beit Midrash The Beit Midrash Learning Centre within the synagogue will be a vibrant hub of study and community life. A beit midrash (literally "house of study") is a traditional Jewish study hall dedicated to Torah learning, including Talmud, Jewish law, and philosophy. Unlike a synagogue, which is mainly for prayer, the beit midrash is a lively, often vocal space for active dialogue, discussion, and study, typically with a library of Jewish texts.
The Beit Midrash in the new Shlomit Synagogue will stand as a living tribute to those who gave their lives protecting others, ensuring that their legacy endures through lively learning, discussion, continuity and faith.
