Bringing state-of-the-art health care to Israel’s under-served South
Southern Israel faces a severe shortage of rehabilitation services, with October 7 and the following war overwhelming an already strained healthcare system. While central Israel has 43 rehabilitation centers, the south has just 11, resulting in wait times that often exceed a year. Children with disabilities, children with cancer, and other vulnerable patients are forced to travel long distances for rehabilitative care, placing heavy financial and emotional burdens on families and often leading to delayed or inadequate treatment. The Ashdod Rehabilitation & Therapy Centre will directly address this urgent need by providing accessible, high-quality rehabilitation and therapeutic care close to home. The Centre will primarily serve serious injury patients, children with cancer, and children with special needs.
Located near Samson Assuta Ashdod University Hospital, it will treat hundreds of patients each month.
At the heart of the Centre is the Medical Clinic, led by leading physicians and guided by international medical standards. Here, residents of southern Israel will have access to facilities and expertise that is currently out of reach for many: medical consultations, physio and occupational therapy, speech therapy, hydrotherapy, nutritional support, psychological and psychiatric services. These modalities will be used to help patients (and their families) through complicated recoveries – whether from severe injuries, cancer treatment, or special needs. The long-term impact of timelier and consistent care will be evident for patients who will be able to recover more fully, build emotional resilience after tremendous hardship, and regain independence to lead full, healthy lives.
For the residents in Israel’s south, who have been through a harrowing two years, this care will be life changing.
